Excursion to Geneva's Surimono Exhibition

Dear Members of the Swiss-Japanese Society

Please take note of the following possibility to see a unique exhibition of Surimono prints in Geneva. We are generously invited to join two guided tours in English with Prof. Hans Thomsen. They are organized by the University of Zurich and open to our members. This is the invitational text:

We are pleased to announce that there will be two excursions to view the newly opened Surimono exhibition at the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Geneva, which has been co-curated by Professor Thomsen and Dr. Christian Rümelin. The exhibition will feature two separate rotations of Surimono prints, and in order to have the possibility to see all of the works we have planned two excursions.

1.  The first excursion will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. We will meet at 14:00 at the Musée d’art et d’histoire (Rue Charles-Galland 2, 1206 Genève). Professor Thomsen will then give a guided tour through the first rotation of the Surimono prints. For those who are interested, we will visit the Fondation Baur, Musée des arts d’Extrême-Orient (8 rue Munier-Romilly, 1206 Genève) afterward to see the permanent collection.

2. The second excursion will take place on Thursday, June 16, 2022. This visit will again include a guided tour by Professor Thomsen through the second rotation of the prints. More details, including the exact meeting time, will follow.

The admission to the Surimono exhibition will be free of charge. It is a wonderful opportunity to see the prints up close and to gain insight into these complex works of art through an expert guided tour, so we strongly encourage you to take part.
